About this course

Design, install, test, and document a structured cabling system that meets ANSI/TIA-568 and ISO/IEC 11801. Covers topology, copper categories, fibre types, pathways and spaces, installation practice, labelling, earthing, and certification testing.

What you will be able to do

  • Describe the structured cabling subsystems and topology defined by TIA-568 and ISO/IEC 11801
  • Select copper categories and fibre types for a given application and distance
  • Install and terminate copper and fibre to standard, respecting bend radius and pulling tension
  • Apply TIA-606 labelling and TIA-607 bonding and earthing requirements
  • Certify copper and fibre links and interpret test results
  • Produce as-built documentation for handover

Practical sign-off

Hands-on tasks a supervisor must watch you complete and sign off before your certificate is issued.

  • 1

Terminate a Cat6A permanent link (panel and outlet)

Correct strip length, untwist under 13 mm, consistent T568 scheme.

  • 2

Certify copper links and interpret the results

Correct limit and cable type selected; explain any failure and fix it.

  • 3

Fusion splice and OLTS test a fibre link

Splice loss under 0.1 dB, loss test at both wavelengths within budget.

  • 4

Label and document a rack to TIA-606

Labels at both ends, rack elevation, and cable schedule.
