About this course
A practical, end-to-end course on video surveillance, IP and analog: choosing cameras and lenses to meet an operational requirement, powering and networking them, installing and fault-finding coax and HD-over-coax systems, sizing recording storage, and commissioning a secure, maintainable system.
What you will be able to do
- Explain the components of an IP CCTV system and how they connect
- Select camera type, lens, and resolution using pixel-density (DORI) targets
- Calculate PoE power budgets and network bandwidth for a camera estate
- Install, power, and fault-find analog and HD-over-coax systems, and plan upgrades to IP
- Size NVR storage and choose an appropriate RAID level
- Configure recording schedules, events, and analytics
- Harden a system against cyber attack and hand it over with full documentation

Practical sign-off
Hands-on tasks a supervisor must watch you complete and sign off before your certificate is issued.
-
1
Mount, aim, and focus an IP camera to meet a DORI target
Prove the target pixel density with a test person or chart, day and night.
-
2
Terminate and test a camera cable run
Terminate to T568A/B, pass a certification or qualification test, and verify PoE under load.
-
3
Configure an NVR from factory default
Time/NTP, users and roles, add cameras, recording schedules, and retention.
-
4
Export evidential footage
Export a clip with player and watermark, and complete a chain-of-custody record.
